Portland, OR July 3, 2007 -- RainbowWeddingNetwork.com is producing the Same Love, Same Rights® Mobile Marriage Summit at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront on October 7, 2007 from 12:30 to 3:30pm. The event will include over 20 local wedding vendors who actively support equal rights and guest speakers from various non-profit agencies throughout the Northwest. Approximately 30 other wedding, travel, home, family and gift-related businesses will also be represented at the Summit, through the 'Wedding and Family Planning Resource Section' specifically designed to aid couples in avoiding instances of discrimination.

“The shifting legislation is astounding,” says Cindy Sproul, co-owner of RainbowWeddingNetwork.com. “There are more states enacting laws involving same-sex partnerships right now than we've ever seen before." Sproul has worked in the GLBTQ community for over twelve years and launched the organization Same Love, Same Rights® with her partner Marianne Puechl in 2003. "We need to work together, all of us, from all walks, classes and backgrounds... I want this rally to serve as a refreshed vision of true equality for the state of Oregon, and beyond.” Sproul and Puechl will be the key speakers at the event.

Meant as an open forum for the public, one of the Summit's main goals is to identify activities that members and advocates of the GLBTQ community can do to create mass change in favor of equal rights in marriage. Those attending the rally will have the opportunity to share their ideas on the issues, sign petitions and learn new ways to get involved, both at the state and national levels. The event is free to the public, and all supporters of marriage equality are encouraged to attend. Other marriage equality rallies are scheduled for New Hampshire, Georgia, Seattle and Chicago.

"When Cindy and I first decided to produce this mobile Summit," says Marianne Puechl, "we realized that we needed to create a space where every guest felt welcome to share their own experiences and ideas. So we started booking gay-friendly venues across the country where we could meet people face-to-face. And we also created a new website, www.SameLoveSameRights.com. It's going to have all the tools that citizens, nonprofit agencies, and businesses need in order to work marriage equality into the fabric of America."

Married & engaged guests will have the chance to add a photograph to the Commitment Photo Album,™ an ongoing project to document GLBTQ couples and their families throughout the nation. The rally will have a photographer available at the event, and printed submissions will also be welcome.

Launched in 2000, RainbowWeddingNetwork.com (RWN) has grown to become the most extensive wedding resource for the gay and lesbian community in the United States. RWN produced its first GLBTQ Wedding Expo in 2003 and released the national Rainbow Wedding Network Magazine in 2006. To date, RWN has produced fourteen different events in eight states.
