New England Center to host Civil Union Weekend

DURHAM, N.H. 02-26-08-- Fourth of July weekend is a time to celebrate independence, and the New England Center Hotel and Conference Center is doing just that with a landmark event. Civil Union Weekend, highlighted by a grand ceremony featuring 20 same-sex couples, has been set for Saturday, July 5. In the wake of New Hampshire’s legalization of civil unions, which took effect on New Year’s Day, the New England Center Hotel & Conference Center is giving couples the opportunity to take advantage of a unique, benefit-laden package.

"The entire New England Center staff is pleased to be hosting such a memorable and groundbreaking event," said Shelley Burch, general manager of the New England Center. "We look forward to what we believe will be the first of many successful Civil Union Weekends."

The ceremony will be held for 20 couples, and each couple can invite up to 25 guests, including 10 guests per couple who will be able to be in the room to witness the actual ceremony. The price is just $3,000 per couple, and that includes a ceremony officiant and musicians, photographer and videographer (couples purchase their own proofs, photos and videos), an hors d’oeuvres reception and buffet dinner courtesy of the award-winning Acorns Restaurant, wedding cake, champagne toast, guest favors and so much more. Hotel accommodations for the guests of honor are included for Saturday night, and discounted rates will be available for out-of-town guests wishing to spend the night.

"Anybody who has been involved in the planning of a civil union or wedding knows the cost can be exorbitant when taking all the necessary details and accommodations into account," said NEC wedding planner Jordyne Clough. "We are pleased to be able to make such a special event so affordable for so many people."
