An impressive panel of celebrity judges consisting of former NBA athlete John Amaeche, Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Tewksbury, and Sirius Radio OUTQ's Doria Biddle has been assembled to select the final winner.
"Ten years ago it would have been unheard of to have such an award and we are happy to be pioneers in gay sports coverage. We anticipate a broad range of applicants from Saturday golfers to serious soccer players," said Eric Carlyle, Publisher/CEO of Sports Out Loud.
The winner will be selected based on the following criteria: commitment to personal achievement, active participation in an individual or team sport, supporting/encouraging others in sports and commitment to the GLBT sporting community and/or GLBT community. “It was important to recognize the diversity of gay community, including athletes” said company Publisher/GM David Riach.
Applications will be accepted starting January 10, 2008 and full details can be found at www.sportsoutloud.com/aoty. The application deadline is March 08, 2008. Official sponsors of the award include Jane and Jane Magazine, HE Swim and Bodywear, and Sidelines Sports Bar.
