Hysterical Response to the Rainbow Sash Movement's (RSM) plan to protest the visit of Pope Benedict XVI

(RSM News - March 17, 2008)-- The following are just a few samples of US reactions the Rainbow Sash Movement has received in printed media, from Catholic Media around the nation. This does not include international coverage, and responses. These responses are indicative of mentality that not only condones Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Trangender violence, but is also consistent with Pope Benedict's World Wide anti Gay Campaign. He should not get a pass on his visit to the United States beginning on April 15, 2008 because some claim him to be a docile old man.

According to Life Site News in both the US and Canada - "The RSM contrasts with ministries in the Church that support Catholics in their efforts to live a life of chastity and to overcome homosexual inclinations when possible. The Courage apostolate, founded by Fr. John Harvey, OSFS in 1980, has five main goals: Chastity, Prayer and Dedication, Fellowship, Support, and Good Example."

(RSM) Fr. John Harvey is best known for his promotion of the ex gay movement. Chastity in his lexicon is a code word for change theraphy.

Life Site News further states that "Courage" "Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that 'homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered,"Ö

The RSM has publicly challenged this interpretation and has challenged "Courage" and Fr. John Harvey to come into the GLBT Public Square to openly debate their position, and that invitation still stands.

Life Site continues "It is deplorable that homosexual persons have been and are the object of violent malice in speech or in action. Such treatment deserves condemnation from the Church's pastors wherever it occurs. The intrinsic dignity of each person must always be respected in word, in action and in law," stated a 1986 Vatican document on the pastoral care of homosexual persons, issued by the then Cardinal Ratzinger also known as Pope Benedict XVI.

"But the proper reaction to crimes committed against homosexual persons should not be to claim that the homosexual condition is not disordered," (RSM)

This 1986 document also enables physical violence against the GLBT International community when we try to "legitimize our rights" under the law.

Catholic On Line has this to say "The Pope has been a vocal opponent of homosexual "marriage". In January 2007, after praising traditional families, the Pope said, "projects that aim to attribute to other forms of union inappropriate legal recognition appear dangerous and counterproductive."

The World of IMHO another Catholic far right aka Republican site says "The RSM plans to throw ashes at the Pope, because "ashes are an ancient and appropriate greeting for a sinner who has caused the Church so much division and pain," stated the movement. Pretty disgusting; but they won't get close enough to do that. Just as well: the sinners shouldn't be the ones throwing the ashes."

The Warrior a news blog continues "There's one word that describes these gay people.....fascists. Excuse me, but If they block the Pope's right-of-way; throw ashes at him; disrupt the Mass; drown out his speech; lewd behavior; Ashes...NOT OKAY! They should be banished from the U.S. and beaten severelyÖ. Gay brown shirts plan to ashes at the Pope."

To best of our knowledge no one in the RSM belonged to the Hitlerís youth like Pope Benedict XVI. Perhaps this will fly in Iran, but hopefully not here."

Than from the far right Catholic Press in Illinois the "Free Republic" not known for itís objectivity when it comes to GLBT persons, has this to say "The ENEMY WITHIN!! These HOMOSEXUALS almost brought down the Church....they need to be EXCOMMUNICATED!"

More enlightenment comes from the DC Catholic Word Press "Such actions are childish at best. Worse, the comparison to the millions of Poles persecuted and killed by the Communists is an insult to both the memory of those victims and to commonsense. Are homosexuals being killed by the Church? Persecuted? Thrown in jail?"

The above reactions speak to a dysfunctional and extremely immature mentality that is enabled by the Pope. It must be publicly challenged because it strikes at the hearts of our communities human rights movement. We have prayed silently for a change, now it is time for unity in opposing the visit of Pope Benedict XVI visit. Let us come together and pray with whistles and ashes.
