Breaking Glass to Shatter Expectations

Former TLA Vets Launch Breaking Glass Pictures & Vicious Circle Films

October 10, 2009 (Philadelphia, PA) – Industry veterans Rich Wolff and Richard Ross today announced the launch of a new North American distribution company, Breaking Glass Pictures. Named after David Bowie's 1995 hit song, the new banner reflects the performer's eclectic influences, and will not be limited to specific genres. Breaking Glass will focus on releasing a wide range of provocative and challenging films from all genres, capitalizing on both principles' experience at TLA Releasing, where Wolff was a Partner and the Director of Acquisitions, and Ross was Director of North American and UK Sales. Wolff will serve as CEO and Co-President of Breaking Glass Pictures, while Ross will serve as Co-President and Director of Domestic and International Sales.

Breaking Glass' initial slate includes the explicit rock film, THE BAND, from Australian director Anna Brownfield, and queer cult director Everett Lewis' LUCKY BASTARD, about a man whose life spirals out of control when he falls for a street hustler. Coming in early 2010 is Morgan J Freeman's road movie JUST LIKE THE SON, starring Rosie Perez and Mark Webber. "These initial releases perfectly represent the kinds of daring, powerful films that will soon come to be synonymous with Breaking Glass Pictures."

The company will also provide Service deals, and has begun to actively seek such distribution agreements, as well as existing catalogs to distribute.

Additionally, Breaking Glass will distribute up to 12 titles a year through their new specialty label, Vicious Circle Films, dedicated to extreme material, such as HANGER, the new film from director Ryan Nicholson about a fetus from a botched abortion who lives to seek revenge, and the soon to be cult-classic, Joseph Guzman's RUN BITCH RUN, an homage to the classic rape revenge films such as MS. 45 and I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE.

Wolff and Ross also announced a joint venture relationship with Bounty Entertainment, headed by Founder and Managing Director Tony Romeo, who was previously the founder of Force Entertainment, one of Australia's largest home entertainment distributors. The partnership was forged at Cannes, after Wolff, Ross, and Romeo recognized a natural fit between their new companies. Bounty Entertainment, a financial partner in the North American venture, has tapped Wolff and Ross to acquire films for worldwide sales in addition to their respective territories.

Breaking Glass Pictures hopes to defy expectations in what has been a difficult economy. As Wolff says, "Despite the current market chaos, we have decades of experience in the industry. We are ready and excited for the challenge of bringing audiences the kind of entertainment they will gladly want to support.”
