"Gay and lesbian couples find their relationships subject to all the
stresses of heterosexual unions, yet without the recognition and
support of society and equal recognition and protection under law.
Although recent studies have shown that straight couples may have
something to learn from the way G/L couples resolve conflict, most
church groups, many families of G/L couples and most states still
reject committed G/L relationships, adding the effects of this
rejection to the already delicate balance that all relationships
between two people involve," says Linda L. Wilson, M.A., D.D.
Rev. Wilson, who herself has been in a committed relationship with her life partner for eighteen years, is the author of Out In The Real World, a new book for building successful Gay and Lesbian relationships. She brings experience, wisdom and humor to the task of understanding and resolving conflict between life partners. Many Queer folk bring years of hurt with them to the relationship; they may have been rejected by their birth families, churches, peers or communities for being "different." They may never have seen successful same-gender relationships as they were growing up; as adults, they may be forced to hide their commitment from their family, bosses, or colleagues at work. They are denied religious and civil recognition of their unions in most places. Public expressions of affection, seen as "normal" for straight couples, are prohibited, and may even place them in danger. All these elements can stress a loving, and potentially long-lasting relationship.
Out In The Real World, an easy-to-read eBook, provides a great resource by offering:
* Practical tools for working with yourself or your partner to strengthen the positive aspects of your relationship
* Guidance on how to avoid the common, yet not well-known, mistakes that can turn relationships into angry, cold, lonely messes
* A downloadable MP3 called "Making Change Easy with Hypnosis" to facilitate making the changes suggested in the practical application sections
* The opportunity to learn and try new ways of relating in the privacy of your home with or without a partner, and being exposed to some concepts that draw on your own inner strengths and wisdom.
Out In The Real World recognizes the added stresses G/L relationships
face, but its main focus is on developing the skills and understanding
necessary to create, in our hearts and homes, the kind of safe,
loving, accepting places we wish we could have in the larger world.
Putting its skills into practice may heal damaged relationships, but
better yet, use it to prevent the hurt from happening in the first
place. Available only in eBook format and including an MP3 (free 30
minute hypnosis session "Making Change Easy With Hypnosis), it can be
