A NEW MEMOIR OF DARCELLE XV
How a shy boy became Portland Oregon's beloved female impersonator
(02-06-2011) -- A moving memoir about how a shy boy from the dusty mill town of Linnton, Oregon grew up to become Portland, Oregon's beloved female impersonator, Darcelle XV.
This is a inspiring story of one man's journey from a challenging, depression-era childhood, time in the military and years as a husband and father, to his coming out as a gay man in the sixties and his struggles to transform a skid row tavern into the longest-running female impersonator cabaret in the country.
Darcelle turned 80 in 2010 and over the years has been a role model who teaches us that being who you really are is the most powerful thing you can ever do. The book grew out of a one man show of the same name, written by Cole and Portland Producer, Director and Actor, Sharon Knorr who also directed the show. Walter's life in the show and the book, has been life changing for young, old, gay and straight alike. It is about overcoming obstacles and still becoming successful and most of all happy. Everyone needs to read this book.
